New Painting A Day - Wearable Art

Three Irises......color saturated. And two of my version of Gloriosa Daisies.

"Why NOT," I say.  When discretionary income falls under daily budget-smart scrutiny why not make art more available, more affordable and more useful?
Why NOT wear it? Why NOT make a statement?
I cannot think of one good reason. So, I'm embracing this
little niche in my own way. Take a look. I'm selling
these tees and tanks at the Farmers Market and
I've even been painting on clothes that people
are bringing to me. Again I say, "why not?"
Why not give just a little more life to a
favorite worn shirt or pair of jeans?
How fun!

Prices from $12 - $20; 100 % cotton or 50% cotton/50% polyblend; prewashed, comes to you ready to wear.

How About This?

It's today, and I've painted.........this is a 26 by 46 inch piece of muslin that will be turned into a skirt soon. I'm thinking a wrap skirt. It was practice and now I love it. It's way too "WOW" and "HELLO" for me, but someone  will love it, buy it, take it home and wear it I'm sure.

NEW Paintings Today

Tulips on canvas board, 5x7

While at the Farmers Market today I had a chance to do some painting. Very small, but still, it was a beautiful day and it was so nice to see so many people out and buying things, healthy things. I'm always in love with color and sights and smells. When I was in Seattle I fell in love with Pikes Market. When I was in New York I could have stood on the street just drinking it all in for days. The Farmers Market here is smaller and doesn't have flying fish or racks of garments being tooled across the broad street in front of taxis chomping at the light like thoroughbreds at the track, but it does have cilantro wafting through the 6 a.m. air as it was being laid on the table. And  the mingled scents of fresh mint and basil, and popcorn, peaches and nectarines, and chicken on a stick. There's live music at either end of the block and probably what I loved the most were the kids. They are so small and they're decked out, in their sunglasses and hats. They're jumping from one yellow street divider dot to another and trying to balance their small selves on the half-rounds. They're in strollers, on bikes, in front packs, back packs, on shoulders. They're making observations and talking about them and I love that parents are exposing them to community. Hmm......too much?
Okay - here are the paintings.

Something a Little Bit Different

Today  I wanted to try something different - a little bit of fabric painting. I've prepped my cotton muslin and it's washed, ironed and I've stretched it onto a frame.......and now it's like a blank sheet of paper staring at me. I should have started on this hours ago but I busied myself with other household stuff, and then I thought maybe I'd be braved if I did a smaller piece first. Here's what I got. Now I'm comfortable with the dye and ready to go bigger. I didn't use a resist on the practice piece I will on the larger piece, which will make it less "blurry". My thought is to make some summery, hippyish hand painted skirts to sell at Farmers Market. I've been dying to do this and see what response I get, and I can't wait to see the finished product. It's always a surprise to me.

When do I want to do this? For tomorrow, Saturday. This will not be a surprise to my Mother.

My 'Painting A Day' website

I've been rather busy with just lots of "stuff" lately - helping a friend with a wedding, making a zillion cupcakes....I exagerate, only 90, and a small wedding cake, decorating......(I am fearless, I'll try anything) . . providing food for a funeral, showing my art at the local Farmers Market on Thursday and Saturday and attempting to keep my house picked up. Guess what got left by the wayside! Exactly! Sleep....okay, sleep and my house. So I've painted but nothing I want to show anyone at the moment.  I found (when I was mini-organizing) one of my sketchbooks and I thought I'd share these charcoal drawings that I did several years ago.

I don't know where I saw these, probably a magazine or a book, because I have not had the pleasure of going to any of these places. I like lighthouses. They signify (to me) the epitome of strength and solitude. They beckon ships to port and their commitment does not waver.

That's it for now.      K

A Painting A Day

Here's a rather large piece I've been working on for the last several days. It measures 30" x 24" and is done with acrylic paints and oil pastels.

Contact me if you are interested in purchasing this piece. ~K
